And at 29 Mikel knows one last big move could be on the cards for a midfielder with over a decade of top-level experience.
But he has been out of favour this term – without a minute of football – after making 33 appearances last season.
The arrival of N’Golo Kane from champions Leicester has also squeezed him out of contention in the defensive midfield role.
He told Goal: “I have one year left.
“When you have a year left as a football player, you have to start planning and thinking about what’s going to happen at the end of the season.
